A SCHOOL said farewell yesterday to its headteacher of 12 years, who is retiring with the end of the academic year.

Pauline Bulman taught at schools in London, in various parts of the Midlands and was a deputy headteacher in Leicestershire before moving to Shincliffe Church of England Primary School.

Now she is looking forward to retirement and catching up with favourite pastimes.

"I am retiring two years early. I am 58 and I still really enjoy the job and the school is doing really well.

"But I want to pursue hobbies and find new ones. I want to take up golf, learn bridge and, of course, there is gardening.''

Mrs Bulman added: "We had an outstanding Ofsted report, with no issues, which is superb.

"It is the best way to go out.''

The new headteacher will be Janine Lowes, who is currently deputy headteacher at William Cassidy Church of England Aided School, in Stockton.
