NEW Year was marred at a village social club when a long-running feud boiled over.

Partygoers were attacked with pool cues at the Officials Club, in Thornley, on January 1 this year.

Durham Crown Court heard that members of the club staff were also caught up in the disturbance.

Two 16-year-olds, whose identities cannot be published for legal reasons, carried out the attack, causing varying injuries. They admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

Ros Scott Bell, mitigating, said both were remorseful for their actionst.

Recorder David Dobbin imposed 18-month supervision orders on both youths, on condition they take part in programmes aimed at confronting their offending behaviour.

He told them: "It's a stark choice between that, or locking you up. These orders are not soft options."

Recorder Dobbin also ordered a 23-year-old brother of one of the pair to perform 150 hours of unpaid work, after he admitted using threatening words or behaviour in the same incident.
