AN annual Ripon procession dating back 900 years has been given a £2,000 boost.
The St Wilfrid's Procession, which dates from 1108, has been given support by Ripon City Council.
The funding has helped cover this year's event, which will feature decorated floats.
Procession committee chairwoman Annette Wilson said: "It is 45 years since floats were first seen at the St Wilfrid's Day event.
"We are delighted that this year the new committee has received such enthusiastic and generous help from the people of Ripon."
The event dates from when King Henry I gave the Archbishop of York the right to hold a fair in honour of Ripon's St Wilfrid.
This year's event will be on Saturday, August 4, starting at the town hall at 2pm, with 20 floats taking part, led by the St Wilfrid character.
There will also be a fair, children's rides and entertainers.
