TWO men armed with weapons, believed to be a machete and a baseball bat, threatened staff at a Darlington newsagents before making off with a quantity of cash.

Police said inquiries were continuing into the raid at McColl's in White Hart Crescent, on the Red Hall estate, between 6.30pm and 6.45pm on Thursday night.

Witnesses said they had seen two people entering the store, armed with a machete and baseball bat.

A cordon was put in place for a short time with a police car and van also present.

The shop was open as usual on Friday morning.

Police said nobody had been injured in the robbery.
