SERVICES today resumed on a railway that was closed when a gas tanker plunged 50ft from a bridge onto the line.
The Weardale Railway in Wolsingham, County Durham resumed services after the tragic death of Peter Williams following Wednesday's accident.
Mr Williams, 25, was the driver of the gas tanker.
The keen footballer, from Smithfield Road, Darlington, had only just learnt this week he had been promoted to captain of his team.
The former Eastbourne School pupil had joined the RAF at 19, where he served for three years, during which time he qualified to become a lorry driver.
Weardale Railway volunteers needed to repair a buckled section of track before services could resume.
