A HEAD teacher says she is delighted after Ofsted’s latest inspection rated her school as good after previously finding it required improvement.

Timothy Hackworth Primary School, in Shildon, has been judged as good in all areas by inspectors visiting last month.

The report praised the school’s enthusiastic staff and pupils’ kind nature.

Head teacher Lynn Boulton said she was delighted with the report.

She said: “I would like to give thanks to all the wonderful children in our school, our talented and dedicated staff, our committed governing body, and parents and carers for their support.

“This is a very well-deserved outcome indeed.”

At a previous inspection inspectors said standards were “well below average” at the end of Key Stage 2 and that “inconsistencies in teaching over time had an adverse impact on pupils’ achievement.”

It stated: “When teaching is not good, some pupils lose interest, become distracted and do not engage in learning as well as they could.”

The latest report reads: “Pupils are well behaved and display strong and positive attitudes to learning.

“Relationships among pupils and between adults and pupils are respectful, open and kindly and pupils like coming to school.

“Children spoke with real pleasure about how much they enjoyed school and how well the staff care for them.”

It continued: “The head teacher leads the school with strength, vision and humanity.

“She has established an able and enthusiastic staff and leaders have created a culture of high expectations.”

Timothy Hackworth’s chair of governors, Val Dowson, said: “Our recent Ofsted inspection reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of staff and governors and the excellent partnerships we have with our families and the wider community.

“We continue to work hard to provide the very best in education and care for the pupils of Timothy Hackworth Primary School. I am very proud to be chair of a school full of happy children.’
