A PONY has been slashed in a sickening attack.
The grey, Arab cross called Popeye suffered a puncture wound to the centre of its spine, an eight inch slash towards its rear and a further three inch slash towards the tail.
The pony was attacked at Claphow (COR) Farm, Lingdale, east Cleveland, within one and three quarter hours of being led out of the stable block into a field.
Its owner Dave Rogerson said all the wounds were clean and deep.
Cleveland Police say it is clear the injuries were caused deliberately and are appealing to the public for help in tracing the person responsible.
Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or has any information on the incident, should contact PC Nick Wood at Guisborough Police Station, telephone (01642) 302626.
