A BRAVE schoolgirl who saved her family from a fire thanks to lessons learnt at a safety event has shared her experience with other youngsters.
Last year, Llinos Poole was one of around 1,500 students to attend Crucial Crew at RAF Leeming which teaches children about fire safety.
After the event, Llinos went home and discussed a fire escape plan with her family – not knowing that it would soon be put into practice for real.
In May this year an unplugged laptop on the floor of the youngster’s bedroom went up in flames and triggered the smoke alarm.
On hearing the alarm Llinos remembered her plan and jumped into action, waking her mum and brother so that they could all safely escape.
This week she returned to RAF Leeming and said: “When I came here last year I really listened to what the Fire Officers said and it stuck in the back of my mind. Because of Crucial Crew I was able to keep my family safe.”
