TWO "key witnesses" of an incident allegedly involving cricketer Ben Stokes are being urged to come forward by police.

The England all-rounder, 26, was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm following a disturbance in Bristol last month.

Officers were called to the Clifton Triangle area of the city in the early hours of September 25 to reports of disorder.

A 27-year-old man suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to Bristol Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Stokes was arrested and released under investigation while teammate Alex Hales, 28, voluntarily attended a police interview.

The England and Wales Cricket Board later announced the pair were suspended from future international matches until further notice.

Durham have distanced themselves from the allegations surrounding Ben Stokes as they announced they would not be conducting their own investigation into the all-rounder's arrest.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The men we hope to talk to left Mbargo nightclub on Triangle West at 2.19am and walked in the direction of Queens Road with two other men.

"One of the men we want to trace is described as white, of slim build, 5ft 9ins tall and aged in his early 20s.

"He had short dark brown hair, was clean shaven and wore a white t-shirt with a sleeveless jumper, jeans and trainers.

"The second man is also white, 5ft 9ins tall and aged in his early 20s, but is of a slightly larger build.

"He had short light brown hair, was also clean shaven and wore a long-sleeved round neck t-shirt, dark/black skinny jeans and trainers."

The force spokesman said three men aged 26, 27, and 28 had voluntarily attended police station for interview.

Last week, representatives of Stokes said the cricketer would offer a full explanation of the incident "when the time is right".

He will not travel to Australia with the rest of the England squad for this winter's Ashes series as he waits to learn whether he will face criminal charges.

He has not been ruled out of the five-Test series which starts on November 23, but the England and Wales Cricket Board will not consider

him for selection until further notice as it awaits developments in the ongoing investigation.

Neil Fairbrother, Stokes' agent with International Sports Management, said the Durham player would discuss his version of events in due

course, but did not wish to prejudice the investigation.

Stokes married long-term partner Clare Ratcliffe at the church of St Mary the Virgin in East Brent, near Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on Saturday.
