VISITORS are being given the chance to see one of the region's great ruins in a whole new light.
The grandeur of Whitby Abbey will be dramatically emphasised when the stunning building is illuminated for the half-term holiday.
From October 25 to 31, between 6pm and 9.30pm
The abbey was the partial inspiration for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel Dracula, and, lit up in this way, English Heritage believes the stark, dark history of the site becomes ever clearer.
Costumed characters will emerge from the shadows to tell the tales of Whitby’s past and a live performance of Dracula will bring the whole evening full circle.
Site manager Delphine Jasmin-Belisle said:“Whitby’s gothic history has long been acknowledged as the spark that triggered the creation of the most famous vampire of all time."
The event runs rom October 25 to 31, between 6pm and 9.30pm each evening.
