AN annual walk has raised more than £3,000 for a hospice charity.

Walkers, runners and members of Wensleydale Rotary Club took part in the Wensleydale Wander in April.

The money was given to Herriot Hospice Homecare by Rotarian Derek Langley and outgoing club president Chris Wheatley.

Mr Langley said: "The wander has raised a terrific amount of money over the years, and we try to support charities in our local community as much as possible."

Meanwhile, at Herriot Hospice Homecare's annual meeting, officials said farewell to chairwoman Judith Steele.

Her successor, Sir Josslyn Gore-Booth, thanked her for her inspired leadership of the charity and said he hoped the charity would continue its rapid growth.

Charity director Liz Pollard said: "An increase in the number of volunteers has enabled more services to be offered, with donations from the Yorkshire Building Society and the February Foundation, enabling our aromatherapy service to be extended to more patients.

"Fundraising income has increased for the fourth year running thanks to the support of many local people and organisations, as well as grant-making trusts."
