A COUNCIL'S partnership with a specialist contractor is making light work of problems.
There has been a 28 per cent reduction in the number of street lights reported as not working across Middlesbrough, in the 12 months since the borough council signed a ten-year, multi-million pound street lighting contract with David Webster Limited.
The time taken to sort out problems caused by power failures has been reduced from 37 days to 19 days.
The deal covers the maintenance of 21,453 street lights, 619 lights in bus shelters and underpasses and 2,016 lighted signs and bollards.
Councillor Ron Lowes, the council's executive member for transport, said: "This is an excellent start, and it is good to see the council and Websters working together successfully."
