AN award-winning Indian chef is set to star in a cookery programme alongside a culinary celebrity.

Milon Miah, of Spice Island, in Barnard Castle, was crowned International Indian Chef of the Year 2017 by Princess Anne, on Monday.

And since returning from the glittering awards ceremony, the 36-year-old is in high demand and was asked to star alongside renowned Bangladeshi chef, Keka Ferdousi, as she filmed outside The Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle.

The duo showed off their cookery skills on Wednesday, with Mr Milon preparing a Chital Fish Kofta Bhuna for Mrs Ferdousi, which will be aired as part of her show on Channel i Europe and Sky channel 833.

Speaking about the experience, Mr Milon, of Darlington, said: "Many of my family members in the UK and Bangladesh watch Keka Ferdousi’s TV cooking programmes.

"I’ve always tried to build my knowledge about cooking so I’ve watched lots of videos of chefs who specialise in different cuisine.

"Ferdousi was one of those chefs, someone who I’ve learnt from and looked up to. And there I was cooking with her, it was a very proud moment for me, it also shows how far I’ve come."

Spice Island manager, Zak Ahmed, added: "Keka is Bangladesh’s equivalent of Madhur Jaffrey.

"She’s a really big deal and is very well known throughout the industry. It’s amazing to have a chef of that calibre visiting us in Barnard Castle, we showed her the sights of Barney and she fell in love with the place.

"The fact that she came to meet Milon just shows that she rates him highly too. It also give him the recognition he deserves in the industry.

"He’s a young forward-thinking chef with a great future ahead of him. We are proud to have him here with us at Spice Island."
