A CLASSROOM assistant will retire from the school where she has worked for almost three decades today.
Lin Roberts started work at Ferryhill Station Primary School almost 29 years ago as a lollipop lady. After 15 years guiding youngsters across the road, she decided to follow them into the classroom to help with lessons.
She now plans to spend more time with her family - husband, Jimmy, her two daughters and five grandchildren.
She said: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here and the staff and pupils have been lovely.
"I will be tearful leaving, but I will still be around the see the children. Some of the first pupils I knew have their children at the school now and they always say hello when they see me."
Mrs Roberts will not be leaving the school altogether because she has become a community governor.
Headteacher Val Jago said: "Mrs Roberts has always been a valued and popular member of staff with all ages. She's been a very active member of the parent teachers' association, always a character, full of laughter and willing to help.
"She has made costumes for shows, went on a residential trip to France and has been devoted to the community and pupils."
