A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously injured in a crash with a lorry on the outskirts of Durham.

The accident, which took place shortly after 6am today, happened on the B6302 Broom Lane.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: "A motorcyclist has suffered serious injuries after a head-on collision with a lorry.

"The incident happened at about 6.05am today on B6302 Broom Lane between Ushaw Moor and Stonebridge and involved a grey Suzuki motorbike and a white HGV.

"The male motorcyclist was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he remains in a serious condition."

The road was closed for several hours between Ushaw Moor and Stonebridge after the accident.
