PLACES remain available on a free training course to learn centuries-old craft working skills, as part of a major heritage conservation project.
Restoration of Fulwell Windmill, in Sunderland, is now approaching its final phase, with traditional craftsmen and millwrights preparing for the new cap, fantail and sails to be installed later this year.
But, to help demonstrate and share their expertise, specialist millwrights Owlsworth IJP is holding practical training sessions in their traditional skills, at the Newcastle Road mill, on Thursday October 19.
Places are available on both free sessions, from 10am until 12-noon, and 2 - 4pm.
It is part of Historic England and Sunderland City Council’s backed project restoring the mill to former glories.
The sessions are free, but, with only ten spaces available on each, they should be pre-booked, by emailing council conservation team leader Mark Taylor, via mark.taylor@sunderland.gov.uk, or by ringing 0191-561 1515.
