GRAEME STORM'S CARD OF CARNOUSTIE

First round of the Open Championship

Hole 1, 406 yards, Par 4

Wayward tee shot to the right, left him in the light rough but redeemed himself with an iron to the fringe. A long putt rolled round the lip and he saved par with an easy tap in. Shots: 4

Hole 2, 463 yards, Par 4

Drove into the light rough before his second shot left him with a difficult 20ft putt. Rolled that up to within three feet before finishing calmly off to claim par. 4

Hole 3, 358 yards, Par 4

One of his best drives of the round found the middle of the fairway. But his iron to within a couple of feet of the pin spun back into Jockie's Burn. Dropped and chipped to within inches to end with a first bogey. 5

Hole 4, 412 yards, Par 4

Found the centre of the fairway again. Approach found the green and then claimed his first and only birdie with a sublime 12ft putt. 3

Hole 5, 415 yards, Par 4

Found the thick, horrible rough from the tee. Blasted a six iron to within ten yards of the green, from where his monster putt sailed ten yards beyond the hole. His putt went close but was forced to accept a bogey. 5

Hole 6, 578 yards, Par 5

Started with two iron shots that allowed him to find the fringe of the green with his approach. Then stroked his long putt to within a couple of feet and tapped in for par. 5

Hole 7, 410 yards, Par 4

Drove into a puddle just shy of a fairway bunker and was given a free drop. Found the green with his second before two putting for par. 4

Hole 8, 183 yards, Par 3

His iron from the tee found the trouble in the sand trap but his chip left him with a comfortable putt for par. 3

Hole 9, 478 yards, Par 4

Real troubles started when he found the trees on the left from the tee. Chipped out with short iron before his third from 180 yards failed to get close. Two putted for a bogey. 5

Hole 10, 466 yards, Par 4

With frustration mounting, he found the rough from the tee again and had to play safe with a chip to the fairway. His third went wide and long of the green before double putting for a successive bogey. 5

Hole 11, 383 yards, Par 4

A successful iron found the left of the fairway but a poor approach shot left him out the back of the green. Chipped to within a two foot and putted away for par. 4

Hole 12, 499 yards, Par 4

Failed to build on a clean drive and sent his second shot to the right fringe of a large green. A good putt left him with a routine finish to claim a four. 4

Hole 13, 176 yards, Par 3

A positive iron shot from the tee found the right of the green and his 20ft putt left him with a tap in from inches to make par when a birdie could have altered things for the better. 3

Hole 14, 514 yards, Par 5

Arguably his last chance of a second birdie went begging. His drive was lucky not to find the bunker, while his fairway wood dropped into the long rough. His chip left him with a 20ft putt and he was able to save par. 5

Hole 15, 472 yards, Par 4

His drive left him within less than a foot of the gorse and had to chip safe into the fairway. His approach left him with a putt for par and he missed. 5

Hole 16, 248 yards, Par 3

Playing into the wind, he had to hit a driver and he found the fringe of the green. His long putt left him with a teasing five-footer for par and he succeeded. 3

Hole 17, 461 yards, Par 4

One of his better drives in the closing stages found the middle of the fairway. A middle iron climbed the bunkers to within 15ft and he two-putted again to claim par. 4

Hole 18, 499 yards, Par 4

The nightmare. Found the fairway from the tee but his second bounced off the footbridge, then the grandstand and rolled into the infamous Barry Burn. After dropping, he chipped into the greenside bunker. From the sand his wedge went right and he two putted for a triple bogey. 7
