A COUPLE are being sought by police over a suspected shoftlifting incident in a former colliery village shop.

Durham Police said it wants to speak to them in connection with a suspected theft that took place in the Co-op supermarket, on New House Road, Esh Winning, west of Durham.

The force said the suspected shoplifting incident happened at the store, which is at the heart of the village, beside terraced residential properties and opposite Starr's Bar, on Saturday, September 14.

The force has issued CCTV images of a man with his hair shaved short at the sides and a woman wearing her hair in a ponytail.

It described the man as being in his 30s, of a stocky build, and wearing a white Adidas t-shirt, light trousers and trainers. Officers said the man appeared to have tattoos on his right arm and on neck.

The woman is described as being in her late 30s, with dark hair and wearing combat leggings and green khaki top.
