SEDGEFIELD has struck gold once again in the region’s Britain in Bloom competition.

The town won over the Northumbria in Bloom judges - securing among a host of titles Best Small Town.

Judges Robert Germany and Anthea Stephenson were said to be full of praise for Sedgefield and its Sedgefield in Bloom (SIB) team.Publicity officer, Norma Neal, said: “Work goes on all year round to maintain such high standards, alongside tremendous community support that helps to keep Sedgefield blooming so beautifully.”

The team won gold for the gardens at Ceddesfeld Hall while chairman Howard Smith received a special award for his outstanding voluntary commitment to SIB.

Council gardeners Stephen Young and Ben Gray were commended, high praise went to the wildflower meadow at Wykes Close and the 700 Bed on the church bank, designed and planted by Alice Hobson.

Barbara Smith and Norman Midgley won gold for the rose garden at Manor House 1707.

Sedgefield Racecourse won silver gilt while gold awards went to Hardwick Hall and Park, the Dun Cow Inn and Ron and Brenda Wright, of Station Road.
