THE artistic talents of Darlington’s older residents will be put in the frame at a special exhibition in the Town Hall.

The display follows the growing popularity of art classes at two of the borough’s extra care housing schemes, Dalkeith House and Oban Court, which support older people to live independently.

Six residents, aged between 76 to 95, regularly take part in the classes run by North-East artist and volunteer Alan Cooke, with the help of the Community Fund to cover the costs of materials.

Now their work will go on show for all to enjoy with an exhibition, organised by Creative Darlington, in the Town Hall from October 23 until December 15.

Penny Ivison, who launched scheme at Dalkeith House last year, said: “Many of those taking part have surprised themselves with some of the artworks they have produced.”

Carol Coates, scheme leader at Oban Court, added: “Our residents have created some lovely paintings and it’s wonderful to be able to showcase them in the Town Hall so that others can see and admire their efforts.”
