A MAN in his 70s has been taken to hospital with a "significant" leg injury after falling in a field.

The Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) were called to the incident yesterday in Hurworth, near Darlington.

The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough in a stable condition.

A spokesperson for GNAA said: "We were called to assist North East Ambulance Service with a patient who had sustained a significant leg injury after falling in a field.

"The area was inaccessible by road, but the aircraft was able to land close to the patient.

"He was assessed on scene by the paramedic and doctor team before being flown to hospital for on-going treatment."
