FANS of Police Interceptors received some devastating news this week.
Heartbroken viewers of the Channel5 show flooded social media after hearing Durham Constabulary’s Sgt Kev Salter will not be returning to the small screen for the 2018 series.
The announcement devastated many fans of the programme, which follows Cleveland and Durham police officers as they go about their work.
As soon as they heard their favourite officer would not be starring in the next series, many social media users took to their accounts to beg producers to bring Sgt Salter back to the show, using the hashtag #onlyonekev.
One person altered an image of the popular police officer, putting his head onto the body of a half-naked male model, while another adoring fan tweeted a picture of her mug, which featured an image of her with Sgt Salter.
Summing up the mood, one Twitter user said: “Bring back Kev, his fans adore him and Police Interceptors won’t be the same without him #onlyonekev.”
A Durham Constabulary spokeswoman said the news had sent their social media accounts into a frenzy.
In an attempt to console his heartbroken fans, Sgt Salter has now recorded a video message especially for them.
He said: “I will feature in some specials but there are some new people involved in the new series.
“I am sure they will not let you down and will do a fantastic job.
“If you could offer them the same support you have offered me, that would be appreciated.
“I would like to say thank you to everybody that has offered me support in recent months, it is overwhelming and I am truly touched by it.
“It means an awful lot.”
