CROWDS turned out for a full weekend of entertainment on the harbour as Whitby Regatta returned for another year.
Yacht and rowing races were among the highlights of the four-day event, which ran from Friday, August 18 to Monday, August 21.
The event, which has been running for 177 years, is one of the oldest sea regattas on the North-East coast and has drawn large crowds into Whitby over the years.
Friday saw the start of the action as a volleyball competition drew in many spectators.
Although choppy seas and murky conditions affected Saturday’s schedule, the tides calmed on Sunday and races were able to resume.
As the weather picked up one of Yorkshire’s famous brass and woodwind bands, the Collingham Band, got crowds to their feet.
Away from the shores, Sunday saw the Regatta fun run get underway, as well as a car rally and bike trials.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight had to cancel its billing on Sunday night as several of the aircraft were grounded due to technical difficulties.
But the event was still rounded off in spectacular style with the the Grand Parade, a prize-giving presentation and fireworks display.
