A RIDING centre day service which supports adults with learning difficulties is celebrating its 10th birthday next month.

Organisers behind the Riding Centre for Special People, in Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, are inviting people to see what is on offer at the Open Arms NE CIC facility.

Christine Barratt-Atkin, of the centre, said: “Some of our riders and Day Service Clients have been with us since the very beginning and are still attending weekly with great enthusiasm.”

She added: “We have an annual competition week and open week where we invite families and friends to come and see our riders compete and enjoy themselves. We also have an annual Christmas party and awards night every December which is extremely popular.”

Transport is provided within a seven mile radius of the riding centre and other service users are transported by taxi or volunteer drivers.

The days run from 9.30am to 3.30pm and those using the service are asked to bring a packed lunch or have access to a microwave under staff supervision.

Mondays see people enjoy days out for sports activities, museum visits or other activities that take their interest. All of which are funded by the centre.
