A PROJECT aimed at helping people develop transferable skills and enhance their employability is seeking new recruits.

More than 90 per cent of graduates from the first Stepping Stones to Employment project, led by County Durham Housing Group and Auckland Castle Trust, either found work or enrolled on further education and training within weeks of completion.

Enrolment for the September course, which will run at Auckland Youth and Community Centre in Woodhouse Close, Bishop Auckland, is open now and runs until Monday, September 4.

Susan Graydon, from Coundon, said: “I wanted to change my career but felt like a dinosaur and needed to update my skills and interview techniques. Stepping Stones was excellent and I’ve already enrolled at college.”

There are 15 places available for the free ten-week programme and those taking part are offered the chance to gain skills and qualifications in areas such as health and safety, first aid, food hygiene, event planning and computing. The course also focuses on improving self-confidence and interview skills, with all participants given the opportunity to undertake a practice interview with Auckland Castle Trust.

The project is funded by NE Procurement. For more information, or to apply, contact 0191-349-7753 or training@cdhg.co.uk
