TWO schools are flying high after their designs were named winners in a flag competition for a live action night show.

Eleven Arches, the charity behind Kynren, invited primary and secondary schools from across County Durham to design a flag which captured the spirit of the open-air spectacular.

Dene Community School, in Peterlee, and St Anne’s CofE Primary School, in Bishop Auckland, fought off competition from more than 100 entries to be crowned winners.

Their flags now fly over the site in Bishop Auckland as thousands of visitors head to see the show this summer.

Damien Boissinot, deputy executive producer, said: “It’s clear that the competition has really caught the imagination of the school community. A lot of time and effort went into each individual design which all captured different aspects of our production.”
