KIND-HEARTED hotel workers put on their walking boots in aid of a world-famous children’s hospital recently.

A team from Darlington’s Premier Inn raised hundreds of pounds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital by hiking the 20 miles between the hotel chain’s Durham branch back to their own workplace.

The efforts of Fiona McGarry Pedelty, Courtney Adams, Leanne Maxwell, Angela Bryan and Tracy Norrie raised more than £540 for the hospital.

The money will be donated as part of Premier Inn’s on-going campaign of support for GOSH, which has seen the business contribute to the costs of a new medical wing and stage fundraising events nationwide to pay for on-site accommodation for families of sick children.

Ms McGarry Pedelty said the tragic case of baby Charlie Gard, who had been treated at GOSH, had spurred the colleagues on.

She said: “The case of Charlie Gard was absolutely heart-breaking but we also knew that there were many other kids in that hospital who were still in need of health care and a miracle.

“Seeing everything that was going on instilled in us just how important it was to do this.

“We wanted to give those other kids a chance and make it so that they and their families are as comfortable as possible while they are going through whatever hell they are going through.”
