A NUISANCE neighbour who threw bricks down the street for his dog to chase and terrorised residents until they moved out has been given his hometown’s first ever Criminal Behaviour Order.

Scott Lister blasted loud rave music, dumped rubbish on public footpaths and shouted in the street.

He was also reported for spitting at his neighbours in Pacha Way, Gateshead, threatening to assault other residents and tried to fight one person in front of their one-year-old son.

The 27-year-old was first reported to police in August 2016 which led to him agreeing to an acceptable behaviour agreement - but he breached that just over six months later.

Lister's harassment of his neighbours was so bad that numerous residents were forced to move out and eventually he was convicted of harassment.

At South Shields Magistrates Court last month, he was handed a 12-week suspended prison sentence and ordered to complete 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement.

Now neighbourhood officers in Gateshead West have secured a Criminal Behaviour Order against Lister that states he "must not behave in a way that causes harassment, alarm or distress".

The order was put in place for five years and Lister could be jailed if he is deemed to have breached it.

Following the hearing, Neighbourhood Sergeant Warren Sturrock said: "Scott Lister made the lives of residents of Pacha Way and the Staiths a living nightmare.

"This sentencing outcome shows that any form of harassment and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated at any level and we will take firm action against the perpetrators.

"If Lister continues to behave in an anti-social manner then he will find himself back before the courts and put behind bars. I would like to thank the victims and witnesses for all their support throughout this investigation."

The victims in this case also released a joint statement following the court hearing, they said: "We are eternally grateful for the help we have received through what’s been a particularly difficult and stressful time.

"In particular, we would like to thank PC Andrew Hyde and PC Michael Neal for their diligence, perseverance and professionalism. We would also like to thank our neighbours for their ongoing support."
