A MOTHER and two police officers battled to save the life of a man who suffered an arterial bleed while driving on Saturday.
The driver , in his 30s, was travelling with his mother, who is an ex-nurse, when he began bleeding.
She administered first aid and the police officers, who were flagged down, helped to apply pressure to the bleed before the crew of the Great North Air Ambulance landed at Fir Tree, near Crook and rushed to his aid.
He was flown directly to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital and was in critical condition when he arrived 11 minutes later.
