THERE were tears, hugs and laughs a plenty when a primary school came together to bid farewell to its year six class.

Stanley Crook Primary School’s oldest pupils were the stars of the show at a special assembly yesterday to mark their transition to secondary school.

A short film in which the 12 youngsters shared their funniest moments at the school was played on a large screen, along with some amusing bloopers. Year five children had also recorded good luck messages and a slide show of photographs charting the pupils’ progress through school was shown, moving many youngsters and quite a few teachers and parents to tears.

However, there was also a lot of smiles, laughter and applause, as headteacher David Christie spoke of the children’s many achievements over the years.

Awards were also presented to children who achieved 100 per cent attendance this year, including year five pupil Rebecca Sharpe who has never missed a day of school since she started.
