CHILDREN have been warned to keep away from a dangerous derelict farm following the latest of a spate of fires today (Tuesday, July 18).

Police were called to a report of seven separate fires at Summerville Farm on Durham Road, Stockton – which is in a very dangerous condition.

"There have been several reports of young people entering the buildings and setting fires, most recently today where seven separate fires were set and subsequently extinguished by our Fire Brigade colleagues," said a spokesman for Cleveland Police.

"Due to the poor structural condition of the buildings there is a real danger to anyone going inside them. And due to previous damage, a large quantity of asbestos is now lying around inside the buildings. This could pose a very serious risk to health."

The farm – just opposite a Tesco Extra – has been fenced off with security fencing but the force is urging parents and carers to ensure they warn their children of the dangers of entering this site as well as reminding anyone caught committing damage or arson will be dealt with.

Anyone with information on crime or anti-social behaviour at Summerville Farm is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101.
