FLARES from a chemical plant are expected to be seen across the skies of Teesside today.

The team at SABIC’s Olefins 6 plant, based at the Wilton chemical site, say there is no risk to the public as a result of a flaring exercise taking place today.

A statement from SABIC said: “Flaring is taking place on SABIC's Olefins 6 plant today, due to a machine trip. “The maintenance team are working hard to rectify the issue, but the flare may last some time.

“Flaring is an essential safety system and there is no risk to the general public.

“SABIC would like to apologise for any disturbance caused.”
