A MAN who walked 1,000 miles to help out his local primary school has handed over a cheque for £1,200.
Bearpark parish councillor Gordon Hull set out on the challenge after finding out the village’s school needed a new minibus.
He decided to walk 1,000 miles – the equivalent of walking to Copenhagen – on old railway paths in County Durham after hearing the song 500 Miles by the Proclaimers while trying to think of a fundraising activity.
He completed the challenge over a number of months and has now donated £1,208 to Bearpark Primary School.
He said: “Thanks to all my sponsors who have given so generously.
“This has been a tremendous effort from the village for Bearpark Primary School which has taught many generations of village residents.”
