A LETTER in The Northern Echo naming Victoria Embankment in Darlington as the worst place for parking in the town sparked a lot of interest from readers.

We asked if people agreed and for examples of parking issues where they lived.

Here are just some of the comments we received:

Gail Hudson: Everywhere is getting as bad, heaven help the fire brigade/ambulance trying to get through

Steph Haywood: Rockwell Ave is a nightmare

Sammie Harrison: Can't even park in my street half the time. I'm usually parked in the street behind me.

Caroline Pallister: Can you not park slightly up on the pavement (ie the right hand side of the pic) but leaving access for wheelchairs, buggies etc That would leave the road a little wider.

Phill Parker: Why doesn't the council offer a 5-day parking permit for town centre workers at a discounted rate in the town's council run car parks?

Tracey Kieran: You wanna try my street at 8.45 and 2.45. School run is nuts and some parents live two streets away

Lilian Rowntree: We can not park outside our own houses in Tower Road because of the hospital. People won't pay for the parking there

Marianne Jowett: Some people who are on part-time contracts cannot afford to pay up to £5 an hour parking, also as Royal Mail workers do not know how long a round is going to take to complete on any given day it is not possible to pay by the hour as this could lead to short payment and receiving a parking ticket

Glenda Ansell: Victoria Embankment is the worst street. Not only do council workers and people who even shop in town park in that street cause they don't want to pay for town parking, but people who work out of town park in the street and walk up to the train station aswell. It's a bloody joke - all cause they are to tight to also pay for paying yet people that live in that street have to pay to park on their own fronts like a friend of mine does

Emma Bolton: Can't park in our own street (Orchard Road) half of the time as it's full of cars belonging to hospital visitors or picking kids up from school. Loads of them get ticketed but people still park there. And it's £100 a year for a parking permit to park in our own street

Judith Sedgwick: I'm moving into Victoria Embankment in a couple of weeks and have been told I need to buy two parking permits. One for my car and one for my daughter's.

Lucy Motson: Can't get parked in our road either Bloomfield Road because of people parking for the hospital I.e visitors, doctors and people attending appointments and if you say anything to them we only get a mouthful. Half the time we have to park on Pierremont Road or I've started putting a parking cone out

Sarah Tighe: Big problem for all living in the streets near to the hospital, especially those where there is no resident's parking. Nearly always packed with non residents visiting or working at the hospital.

Bev Swainston: I appreciate the problems with on street parking - but what about "on footpath" parking? I'm sick of having to cross the road, or walk on the road because drivers seem to think that the footpath is a legitimate parking space. I hate to think what it's like for wheelchair/mobility scooter users or people pushing pushchairs.

Tracey Woo Woo Gordon: Grainger Street is full of people parking for the train station. I had to park in another street because of them - gets my goat

Catherine Webber: I can hardly ever get parked outside my house because of people having two cars or more also my neighbour can't park for toffee and insists on parking in front of my house so when I inquired at the council to pay for a bay to be painted with my number only to be told yes you can pay for this but she can still park there because she is disabled

Michael Bielby: I park here because I work in town centre and can't pay to park five days a week. I think that residents should have more permit space on their side of the road. I usually get a space on opposite side which is completely acceptable.
