THE memory of a much-loved teenager will inspire footballing fundraisers to help those affected by meningitis.
In February, Jamie Davies-Sen died suddenly after contracting the life-threatening disease.
An outpouring of grief followed the unexpected death of the popular 15-year-old, who had been a Year 11 student at Hummersknott Academy.
His friends and family are now hoping to prevent other youngsters suffering the same fate as the tragic teen.
They have organised a charity football match and family fun day, taking place in aid of Meningitis Now.
Jamie’s mother, Katharine Davies, said her beloved son had deteriorated rapidly after contracting meningitis.
She said: “Jamie died on February 2 2017, it was from bacterial meningococcal disease, strain Y.
“Jamie died very suddenly, there was nothing anyone could have done.
“So we need to raise money to make sure more vaccines are developed and given early to children.”
The football match and fun day will take place on Saturday, July 8 from 1pm until 4pm at Hummersknott Academy.
Families can enjoy activities and entertainment including a bouncy castle, archery, face painting, a tombola and a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competition.
A raffle will also be drawn, with prizes including a party for ten children at Teesside Karting, a day out at the races for four people, cinema tickets and hampers.
All are welcome, with proceeds going to the Meningitis Now charity.
