SWIMMERS from the county have won ten medals at a regional swimming gala.

Eight athletes from Thirsk's White Horse Swim Team took home gold, silver and bronze medals from the Scarborough Gala.

Twenty swimmers from the club took part in 22 events with gold medals going to Ashley Crewdson, Matthew Pears and Mabel Ellerker.

Silver medals were won by Jennifer Crewdson for her individual events and Alex Pawlett, Jade Hutchinson and Alexander Fish won bronze medals. The team also had 11 placings and 23 personal best times.

Miss Crewdson also won the skins event, which involves winners of the individual medley events competing against each other repeatedly with the slowest swimmer dropping out after each round. The designated stroke for each round is chosen at random.

This year's event featured several lengths of butterfly.

Thirsk White Horse Swim Team trains daily at Thirsk Pool.
