AS SPORTSWOMEN prepare to go head to head in a cricket world cup, a County Durham town is celebrating the success of its very own girls’ team.
Sedgefield Cricket Club is encouraging more girls into the sport to mark the impending ICC Women’s World Cup in England and Wales on Saturday and Women’s Sport Week which runs until Sunday.
The club launched its girls-only soft ball cricket sessions in 2016 and now has 35 youngsters attending weekly.
Coach Stephen Gilmore said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the popularity and uptake of our girls’ cricket sessions.”
- Sessions for girls aged seven to 13 take place on Fridays from 6.30pm to 8pm.
