A TERRIER was killed and its owner attacked by another dog in a city centre.
Onlookers described seeing a silver Staffordshire Bull Terrier running towards the pair in Piccadilly, in York, at about 1.20pm on Wednesday.
Members of the public tried to catch the animal but it ran off and was later caught by bus wardens Mick Major and Shaun Griffin.
Mr Major said there was no owner with it, adding: "First of all I put my belt round its neck, then someone gave us a bit of rope and we held on to it."
Paramedics were called to help the owner of the terrier who had bite wounds to her hand.
She was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police say they have spoken to the owner of the dog and the animal is now in a secure location while enquiries continue.
