HUNDREDS of schoolchildren have dived into the world of art after staff at a museum set themselves the challenge of inspiring them.

The Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, opened its doors to 13 primary schools in the Bishop Auckland area, inviting all of the children to participate in its Picture This project.

All early years children in the Bishop Auckland Cluster of Schools have also been involved in the project which aims to give children the opportunity to enjoy galleries and museums.

Each school made their own artwork which was showcased at a celebration day called Voyage of Splendour and Festivity, held yesterday.

Keith Taylor, Head of Bishop Auckland Cluster of Schools, said: “We wanted to promote the arts to our pupils and to encourage them to enjoy participating in a project that was shared with many others.”
