The Teesside Troubadour, whose music is celebrated across the world, died last week at the age of 69, just weeks after undergoing heart surgery.
His family released a statement online on Saturday, saying: “The Garbutt Family would like to announce that Vin’s funeral will be taking place at Middlesbrough Cathedral on Friday 16th June at 12pm.
“If you are reading this, your life is likely to have been touched by Vin, either through his music, his friendship or his family.
“All of you who wish to pay your respects are welcome to join us at the cathedral on Friday.
“We would like to celebrate his life the way he lived it, with open arms.”
Following the service, Mr Garbutt will be laid to rest at Eston Cemetery.
Born in South Bank, Middlesbrough, the renowned folk singer enjoyed a career as a musician that spanned almost 50 years.
He lived near Loftus at the time of his death.
