AN OPERATION to tackle underage drinking is being rolled out across Darlington in a bid to crackdown on anti-social behaviour.

Operation Aries relies on information from residents to target problem areas or individuals.

Health advice for parents and teenagers is also offered as part of the operation to encourage families not to buy alcohol for youngsters – which is also a criminal offence.

In Darlington Police spokesman said: “We will be use any information we receive to target areas, premises and individuals to offer support, further training or carry out enforcement activity, should it be required.

“Research has shown that underage drinkers prefer to get their alcohol from parents, grandparents or older siblings.

“We aim to reduce anti-social behaviour linked to underage drinking in order to make our communities safe.”
