A THREE-DAY festival featuring world class tribute acts hit the right note with thousands of music fans.

The Wannasee Festival kicked off in Bishop Auckland on Friday night when hundreds of people of all ages turned out to watch 1960s band The Moondogs, plus a Green Day tribute, at the town’s Heritage Park.

But the fun did not stop there.

The party continued throughout the weekend, with acts inspired by legends such as Adam Ant, Duran Duran, Pink, Queen, Cold Play, The Who, Thin Lizzy and Kasabian putting on a show to remember.

Heavy downpours on the Saturday failed to dampen spirits and many people took advantage of the opportunity to camp overnight.

Organiser John Bannon said: “It has gone down really well, people seemed to be having a great time and it was nice to see a lot of families.

“The feedback has been excellent. This is our fourth year now and the festival has earned itself a reputation for securing top class acts.

“The performances have all been excellent this year and when the headline acts were on stage on Saturday night the atmosphere was amazing.

“Obviously we had the storm on Saturday but people didn’t let it put them off. You can never predict the weather in England.”

As well as the music, festival-goers were entertained by a host of circus performers and street artists.

There were also free games and face painting for children.

Wannasee Festivals will be staged in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire on July 15 and in Penrith from August 25 to 27. For more information and tickets, visit wannaseefestival.com
