HOMEOWNER Chris Whitfield moved into a home with a flagpole – and made the mistake of allowing his children to choose the flag.
And since he raised the North Korean flag 20ft up in the air, it has caused some conspiracy theories in his home town of Ingleby Barwick.
He defended himself yesterday, saying it was “just a bit of fun” as he was lambasted for being inappropriate on social media.
Passers-by joked that the Sober Hall Avenue home could have been a UK holiday home for dictator Kim Jong Un.
But others criticised the flag as being inappropriate, as the totalitarian east Asian state is on the verge of nuclear war with the West.
Mr Whitfield said he had moved into a house with a flag pole and allowed his children to pick the flag.
“I said they could have anything they wanted but that’s the one they liked the look of,” he said.
However, he’s planning on replacing it with a pirate flag after being criticised for the choice.
Following the backlash, Mr Whitfield said he may be forced to seek diplomatic immunity and get a little flag for his car.
