POLICE have tracked down two people seen on CCTV talking to a man who officers suspect may have carried out a rape in Darlington.
Footage captured on security video from a business in Brunswick Street showed a couple walking down the street towards St Cuthbert's Way after the incident, which is said to have occurred just after midnight on Wednesday morning.
Detective Sgt Sean Jackson, of Durham Constabulary, said: “We have identified them and they have been of great value to the case.”
Police said a 38-year-old woman was subjected to a 'brutal' attack on a grassed embankment just off St Augustine's Way, which leads to the River Skerne running past the rear of Halford's.
A 21-year-old local man was arrested on Wednesday and remains in custody after police were granted more time to question him.
