AN investigation is underway after a motorist crashed into a roadside barrier and fled the scene.
The emergency services were alerted to a collision on the A688 at Metal Bridge, near Ferryhill, County Durham, during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police officers arrived at the scene shortly after 2.30am and discovered a black Peugeot 206 had collided with a roadside barrier.
However, there was nobody inside the vehicle or in the nearby area.
The vehicle was recovered from the scene and Durham Police are investigating the incident and making enquiries to establish the legal owner of the vehicle.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact police via the force’s non-emergency number 101.
