YOUNGSTERS served up a top table finish at a national table tennis competition recently.
Students from Longfield Academy are celebrating coming third in the English Schools’ Table Tennis Association Butterfly School Team Championships.
Four-man squad Tom Raynor, Callum McRae, Callum Finlay and Dylan Gunter lost out on second place by just two points.
Ranked fourth in the country for his age group, Tom maintained his unbeaten record at the tournament, racking up 18 wins.
The under-13s team, who won the Tees Valley Championship in October 2016 and finished third place in the National Championships last year, were the only squad representing the North-East in the competition.
Head teacher Susan Johnson said: “Our table tennis team continues to go from strength to strength.
“To have four boys representing our academy on a national level in sport is an incredible achievement.”
