SEARCHES are being carried out at a house in Croft, near Darlington.

Officers are at a property in South Parade as part of an investigation into alleged drugs offences.

Forensic officers and an ambulance are at the scene.

The house is close to the local primary school.

"There are at least two police cars and forensic teams on site on South Parade in Croft," said a witness.

North Yorkshire Police has been contacted for a comment.

Neighbouring Croft on Tees Church of England Primary School contacted parents this afternoon, saying: "Can I make parents aware police are conducting a house investigation in South Parade. Have informed us no need for alarm. Pupils are safe."

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: "On the evening of Wednesday 3 May 2017, North Yorkshire Police arrested a man from Croft on Tees on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

"Searches of a property in Croft are being carried out as part of the investigation. The arrested man remains in police custody for questioning."
