FIREFIGHTERS are inviting people to attend an event promoting fire door safety awareness.

The County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) is urging tradespeople, house builders, architects and commercial property managers, as well as those working in the construction, education and healthcare industries, to attend.

The event, organised after it was found a large number of fire doors are failing to perform, will be held at Durham County Cricket Club, in Chester-le-Street, from 9am to 2pm on Thursday May 11. It is being run by the service in association with timber and construction materials supplier Arnold Laver and several other industry leading figures.

The day will cover new legislation, building regulations and the latest developments surrounding fire doors, as well as providing in-depth product information on the specification, installation and maintenance of fire doors.

A CDDFRS spokesman said: “We envisage that this free accredited event will appeal to a huge range of people. It has been designed for anyone who has influence over fire doors.”

Key speakers include representatives from the CDDFRS , BWF Certifire Scheme and Fire Door Inspection Scheme. To book a place email events@laver.co.uk or visit www.laver.co.uk.
