TALENTED musicians from across the region will come together for a programme of Scandivian and Russian music.

Northern Orchestra, bringing together nearly 50 of the most outstanding musicians from the North-East, will perform at St George’s Church, Jesmond, in Newcastle, at 7pm on Saturday.

The concert, conducted by Michael Lamb, will include Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Grieg’s Sigurd Josalfar, Sibelius’ Finlandia and Norman’s Concert Overture.

Formed by Mr Lamb in 2015, the orchestra held its inaugural concert last year.

Mr Lamb, 31, a musical director, conductor and teacher, aims to reinvent the model of community orchestras. Where musicians have to pay to take part, he instead shares the proceeds of concerts with those performers.

He said: “The North hosts a wealth of orchestral talent and this concert is all about bringing music home.”

He added: “I want people to be able to hear the north’s best classical musicians, from where there is so much talent, right here.”

He added: “It’s also very important to me to make orchestral music accessible both to lovers of classical music and to a new audience - and to all musicians.”

Tickets are £15, (conc £12, students £5), For more information visit northernorchestra.com
