ATHLETES are expected to descend on a County Durham park for an annual running event this week.
Record numbers are anticipated as the Neptune Relays return to Sedgefield’s Hardwick Park this Wednesday (April 27) where men, women and children will be competing for trophies and traditional prizes of fresh fruit.
Organised by Sedgefield Harriers, the event is open to groups of four runners in teams of men, women or juniors.
Mixed teams can take part but are not eligible for trophies and prizes.
Relays start with the men’s teams at 6.45pm and others at 6.55pm.
Registration opens on the day at 4pm.
Team sheets must be submitted by 6.30pm.
Team entries cost £8 and £10. Full team payment must be made at the time of registering.
There are toilets on site but no changing facilities.
Last year 115 teams from across the North-East and North Yorkshire competed for titles.
In the men’s event, Durham City Harriers triumphed, while Crook & District Athletic Club won the women’s race.
